Overview

This course introduces basic administration functions involving Ubuntu Server within a Power Systems (PowerVM) ecosystem. In this course students are taught installation, configuration, administration and troubleshooting. Students will also learn command line operations, system administration, device management, IBM tools, and system recovery. The course is part of a Linux curriculum path available to students who want to focus on Ubuntu Server.

This course provides lectures and hands on labs in an instructor-led course environment, either in a face-to-face classroom or in a live virtual classroom environment (ILO - Instructor Led Online).

Public

The audiences for this training include anyone who needs to create and manage partitions on IBM Power System servers, such as AIX or Linux technical support and consultants, AIX or Linux system administrators, or system architects and engineers.

 

Prerequisits

Students would benefit from general knowledge of IBM Power Systems servers and partitions. This can be obtained through attending Essentials of PowerVM (LX024G) .

Objective

On completion of this course, the student should be able to:

  • Recognize different execution environments that Ubuntu Server Linux runs on for POWER8 processor-based server
  • Install Ubuntu Server on a POWER8 processor-based server
  • Manage Ubuntu Server within a POWER8 processor-based server environment using standard tools
  • Install and use IBM Service and Productivity tools
  • Customize the configuration of the boot loader

Use recovery mode to rescue a failed instance of Ubuntu
