Power Systems Running Linux - Ubuntu Installation and Administration (PowerKVM base)

Overview

This course is designed to teach the installation, configuration, and system administration of Ubuntu server on Power8 PowerKVM servers. Class activities include installing, configuring, system administration of Ubuntu in a PowerKVM environment.

Public

Anyone responsible for implementing and managing an Ubuntu server on IBM Power Systems, and is interested in configuring or learning about Ubuntu server running on IBM PowerKVM Systems.

• POWER system administrators
• POWER system engineers
• POWER system architects

Prerequisits

Students attending this course are expected to have Linux on Power, and PowerKVM, knowledge. These skills can be obtained by attending the following courses or gained from equivalent experience:

• LX21G Power Systems Running Linux - Getting Started
• LX022G Essentials of PowerKVM (formerly course LX53G)

Objective

On completion of this course, students should be able to:

• Describe the features and functionality of Ubuntu server
• Recognize different execution environments that Ubuntu server runs on for POWER processor-based systems.
• Describe the features and functionality of Ubuntu server
• List the different environments that Ubuntu server runs on for POWER processor-based systems.
• Define the planning steps to implement Ubuntu server on IBM PowerKVM.
• Define the system requirements for Ubuntu server.
• Define the steps to install Ubuntu server on IBM PowerKVM Hypervisor for IBM scale-out Linux systems environment.
• Install, configure, and manage Ubuntu server on IBM PowerKVM.
• Perform select administrative actions on Ubuntu server.
